"I believe the nicest and sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens, but just those that bring simple little pleasures, following one another softly, like pearls slipping off a string."

Gearing Up...

Today I am ordering some of our homeschooling things.

Starting after the Feast we are going to be doing school 5 days a week. Still keeping it simple, because Clara is after all 4, will be 5 in Jan.

We are going to be using:

Reading: Open Court Reading
Writing: Handwriting Without Tears K
Math: Horizons Math K, and also a bit out of a neat counting book my mom gave us.
History: American Kids in History Series: Colonial Days
Art: I Can Draw: Animals and some other fun cute art projects! The girls are going to love this.
Bible: (the whole family) Proverbs Study Guide by Kevin Swanson, ABC Bible Verses Book, and some fun little lessons on the Fruits of the Spirit and Holy Days

So far "school" has been when Clara feels like it, but she is getting where she wants to do it more and more. This is fun.I love it when her eyes light up and she "gets" something! Flora will be sitting in on school time and doing along with Clara for Art, Bible, History and Math. We will play it by ear with the other subjects. I am thinking that I need to get a book shelf set up in the living room for our school stuff. Someday, I would love to have a "schoolroom" but for now, its our table!

  2. Everything I have ever read or heard about the program is all VERY positive. I am looking forward to starting it with both girls. Flora in the Pre-K book and Clara in the K book. :)
